Commercial Built-Up Roofing
Built-up Roofing (BUR) has many advantages over other roofing systems. It's a multilayered roof that combines saturated or coated roofing felts (or ply sheets) with bitumen (or asphalt). The felts are strengthened with fiber mats and held together with alternating layers of bitumen that has an adhesive quality.
Together, these elements form a completely finished membrane that's topped with a protective coating for maximum protection. The Built-up Roof can be treated with reflective materials to reduce utility bills and it's easy to recover.
Also known as a "tar and gravel" roof, BUR Systems have been used since the 1800s and are highly resilient. Their excellent performance record makes them a wise choice for commercial roofing projects.
Benefits of the Built-up Roofing System include:
- BUR systems have five times more water-resistance than other systems
- Outstanding water resistance reduces leaks
- Asphalt seals and protects the entire roof
- Easy to install
- Long-lasting BUR systems are strengthened by multiple fiber reinforcements
- Easier to maintain than other systems
